Mariners Coach is Named New Jersey's Best

Michael Barrett named coach of the year

His new, personal award is probably physically smaller than the state championship board he's holding above, but Michael Barrett will need to find some space on the mantle regardless.

July 28, 2025- The awards to continue to roll in for High School North track and field coach Michael Barrett, and rightfully so following an unprecedented run of dominance by his remarkable athletes.

The latest: Barrett has been named 2025 Boys Coach of the Year for the state of New Jersey by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

"This honor is based upon your leadership and the success of the track & field team throughout the season," the letter announcing his award read. "It's also a reflection of your hard work and the dedication of the student-athletes, the coaching staff, as well as the administration of the school."

The Mariners' boys 2024-2025 track season was an all-timer with Barrett at the helm. The team and individual achievements seemed to be an everyday occurrence throughout the winter and spring seasons, and its stars drew attention nationally and certainly from collegiate programs.
