July 8, 2024-- At its special board meeting July 3, Toms River Regional Schools announced it has filed a lawsuit against the New Jersey Department of Education as a result of a $26.5-million budget hole for 2024-2025 caused by the $137 million cumulative loss in state aid from 2017's State Bill S2.

Superintendent Michael Citta delivered an impassioned speech to begin the meeting, which was followed by the district's attorney, William Burns, who announced the lawsuit. Citta's statement can be read in full here, and the meeting in its entirety can be viewed here.
