During the month of April, High School North homerooms participated in "Change for Change," an initiative orchestrated by Rotary Club which collected funds for Ukrainian refugees. The fundraiser, spearheaded by Arianah Davis working collaboratively with Roots&Shoots and FBLA, raised just over $1,400. When Arianah presented the check, Rotary Club agreed to match the funds. Collectively over $2,800 will be donated thanks to the students, staff, and Rotary Club for Ukrainian refugees. (6/22/22)

High School South’s Spirit Club ran its annual Spirit Tassel Contest over the past two weeks. The contest was started 20 years ago to help seniors defray some of the costs of the senior prom. Sabrina Gleason, pictured here with the South Spirit Leaders, was this year’s winner. Her guess of 122 strands of string in the graduation tassel was closest to the actual number of 135. East Dover Elementary recently held a Read-A-Thon which raised money to create positive and inspiring hallways and stairwells for the school. Last week, 123 members of the High School North band, chorus, and theatre programs attended Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. They performed for the fourth- and fifth-grade students of West Dover and Walnut Street elementary schools, and will be visiting Citta and North Dover elementary schools at the end of the month. High School East’s Thespian Honor Troupe 3459 received the Gold Honor Status Award at the state competition, one of only five troupes to be recognized at this level. It was the third straight year Troupe 3459 earned the Gold Honor Status Award, which acknowledges work for the community through collections, shows, and more. On Wednesday, December 22th, the High School South German Club took a cultural trip to the Christmas Village in Philadelphia. The Village contains a German-style Christmas market, complete with food and craft vendors designed to mimic the classic Weihnachtsmärkte, which is popular in Germany during the holiday season. Students were able to shop for gifts and eat traditional foods like Bratwurst, Spätzle, and Schnitzel. (1/6/22)

Mrs. Asch's fifth grade art students at Washington Street School created a winter scene for all students to enjoy. Then the students in Mrs. Rettino's tech club created a Flipgrid so they could share their favorite holiday song along with some interesting facts about the song. High School North students met virtually with Mary Beth Tinker on Dec. 14. In December 1965, Tinker was part of a small group of students—including her brother John and their friend Chris Eckhardt—who wore armbands to mourn those who had died in the Vietnam War on both sides. They were suspended for wearing the armbands and as a result their case went to the Supreme Court, where the ruling was in favor of first amendment rights for students. Tinker spoke about her experience as a student expressing her first amendment rights as well as the experience she had with her case making it to the Supreme Court. The Tinker vs. Des Moines case is a required case for the AP United States Government & Politics to know for the AP exam. (12/15/21)

The students recited poems and sang songs telling the history of the first Thanksgiving in America. The decorations and costumes were all crafted by the students.
