It has come to our attention that many of our young people have been watching and or talking about a Netflix series called “13 Reasons Why”. This series graphically portrays a teenager’s suicide and the specific factors and circumstances that lead to her ending her life.
There has been mounting concern and criticism from mental health experts who say the show is very graphic and the portrayal of suicide is incorrect and potentially dangerous for vulnerable adolescents.
We encourage you to carefully monitor your child’s television viewing and have open dialogue about this and any other such shows that may depict sensitive issues.
As you are likely aware, our guidance personnel, SACs, psychologists and other counselors are always available to assist you or your child if you have any concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact school personnel as our primary concern is always the safety and well-being of our students.
